The Indian Women’s Pocahontas Club welcomes you to celebrate the tradition of the “Wild Onion Feast”. The tradition started many years ago. The Cherokee people welcomed spring with the harvesting of wild onions after a long, cold winter. Along with digging only enough Sassafras roots to boil for a special aromatic tea, it was home you go to clean the wild onions, gather eggs, and prepare a feast. This tradition has long been shared with family, friends, and neighbors, bringing families and the community together.
This is an opportunity to listen to the voices of Cherokee language singers, taste the goodness of scrambled eggs and wild onions, and enjoy the gathering of community to celebrate new beginnings.
The Wild Onion Feast celebrates the beginning of Spring and the gathering of our Indian Women’s Pocahontas Club members together, along with the community to raise money for our Higher Education Scholarship Program.
Due to the popularity of the event, reservations for seating are appreciated. Tickets are $30 each or a table of eight for $250. For more information contact: Monta Ewing today at 918-857-2089 or email presidentindianwpc@gmail.com.
This event made possible with the support of the Cherokee Nation and other generous businesses and individuals.
